Straight From the Heart

Let’s face it – summer has definately hit the Valley of the Sun. Just for a second, think back with me to December 2007. Missing those colder temperatures right about now? Well what I miss most about the winter season isn’t the fridged weather. I love and miss the service and giving opportunities that are available everywhere you look and go. Now, come back with me to the present time (when we wear gloves not because it’s cold but because we’ll burn our hands on the steering wheel if we don’t). It’s been months since I was presented with the opportunity to give back to those less fortunate in our community. Well, don’t fear because here’s your chance to help!
Straight from the Heart is a donation campaign that is kicking-off this month at Spotlight events across the Valley. The campaign’s chairmen and volunteers are asking for your help in collecting goods and services that will go to Beatitudes Center DOAR, a non-profit, 501(c)3 interfaith organization that provides free services for caregivers of the elderly, homebound adults, grandparents raising their grandchildren and congregational health programs. The people that this worthwhile organization serves are in need of the simple things - personal hygine items, haircuts, groceries, blankets, US postage stamps, ect.
Here’s how you can help! Contact me at (480) 464-1111 and let me know what you are able to contribute or reply to this posting and provide us with contact information so that we can contact you to give you more information. Donations can be something small like a couple of toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste, to something large like durable medical equipment or a certificate for respite care at a health care facility. No donation is too large or too small most goods and services are welcomed. We’ll provide you with a certificate of donation which you fill out and return with the items you would like to donate. (If larger items are donated we can arrange for a pick-up). Beatitudes Center DOAR will be presented with all the items at the July Spotlight meetings and those companies and individuals that donated will be recognized in Spotlight’s newsletter in August and will receive a receipt from the organization.
So don’t let the heat wear you down. Help out and give what you can to this great cause! They are in need of the simple things that all of us have access to.
A special thanks goes out to Nora Platt (Mi Casa Nursing Center), Terri Hernandez (Homewatch Caregivers), and Deborah Cooper (Maryland Gardens) for heading up the campaign in their regions of the Valley and to Kyle Lewis (Spotlight) whose idea and vision made this opportunity possible. I’m grateful he gave me the opportunity to be a part of it.
