  • The decision to place a loved one in a nursing home is a difficult one. While the biggest concern for families is obtaining the best care available, finances may be a very difficult obstacle to overcome. It can cost between $30,000 and $60,000 annually for nursing home care.

Those fortunate enough to have unlimited resources are able to provide for this care. Those who have little or nothing can turn to government programs for aid. But where does that leave those who have worked hard over the years to save a modest nest egg for their retirement? They have too much to qualify for aid, and what they do have will be exhausted in a very short period of time paying for long-term health care. If you find yourself in this dilemma, take comfort in knowing that there are solutions.

Arizona, through Medicaid, has developed a program for long-term care known as ALTCS (Arizona Long-Term Care System). As with all Medicaid programs, recipients must meet eligibility requirements to qualify for benefits. Planning is essential! Our Elder Law team is available to review your individual financial situation at no charge and advise you on the financial and estate planning needed to help you qualify for ALTCS benefits while helping to protect the families assets.
